The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community

The_great_turningA friend sent me a great article taken from the book The Great Turning:  From Empire to Earth Community that was published in this month's YES magazine. Its a rather lengthy article but well worth the read.

We are at a turning point and we are the ones we have been waiting for.......

By What Name Will
Future Generations
Know Of Our Time?
Will they speak in anger and frustration of the time of the Great Unraveling, when profligate consumption exceeded Earth's capacity to sustain and led to an accelerating wave of collapsing environmental systems, violent competition for what remained of the planet's resources, and a dramatic dieback of the human population? Or will they look back in joyful celebration on the time of the Great Turning, when their forebears embraced the higher-order potential of their human nature, turned crisis into opportunity, and learned to live in creative partnership with one another and Earth?

Daniel Pink - A Whole New Mind and Mind Mapping

DhpIn a recent post I discussed the wonderful new  book "A Whole New Mind" by Daniel Pink. My last  post was on Mind Mapping. It has occurred to me that  Whole New Mind really points to how important  Mind Mapping is to being able to bring everything  you have to whatever you are doing. In a Whole  New Mind Pink states there are 6 new skills you will need to be successful in the Conceptual Age.  They are design, story, symphony, empathy, play  and meaning. Using all of these skills you more fully activate your right brain.

There is evidence of  everyone of these skills in doing mind maps. And that is of no surprise given that what mind maps  do is activate the whole mind. I now do all of my  thinking, planning, brainstorming and planning using mind maps. I used to do some things with lists and others using mind maps. What I saw time  and time again is that when I used a mind map I  got a much more complete picture of whatever I  was working on. Iit has  felt like cheating using a mind map. If you want to maximize your chances for success in this new conceptual age, use your full brain and stat mind mapping.

Mind Maps

Mmaps Sometimes there is something you want to do and other things keep getting in the way. Writing about Mind Mapping is one of those things. I have been doing mind maps for 25 years and they have been a huge help to me in my career and life. I often tell people that doing mind maps is like cheating. Its like cheating because for any particular topic doing a mind map will access all parts of your brain and get out all of the pertinent information on any subject. I use them weekly for my to do list for the week. I have used them with my partner as a way for us to design a course. I use them as a help in composing letters, developing project time lines and now on line with others for group brainstorms. There is great software that helps you create mind maps. It is called Mind Manager and it is put out by Mind Jet. One of the beautiful things about this software is you can get a free 30 day trial and there are the best tutorials I've ever seen, DUH, they are all mind maps. Here are some mind map examples.

Prayer of Jabez

Jabez   The Prayer of Jabez is buried in the most boring part of the Bible 1 Chronicles 4. It is buried in nine chapters of genealogies, the official Jewish family tree from Adam through the present. In mid- litany the chronicler stops and in just two verses -9 and 10 - we learn everything the bible has to say about this man, Jabez. Here is the prayer and what it has meant to me.

Oh that You would bless me indeed
First this indicates a belief that there is a god, spirit ,higher power greater than you who cares about you. And your willingness to ask for this force's blessing. Not a small task for many in our world. This is surrender and a proactive request for God to bless you.
I have been saying the Prayer of Jabez daily for 5-6 years. When I look back on those times I see that I have indeed lived a blessed life. I'm doing work that I love with a great partner and friend Jeff. I have a fantastic wife and kids, money and my health. The only troubles I can recall I can see in retrospect were of my own imagining. I am blessed indeed.
If you believe there is the possibility of a higher power why not ask it to bless you. This can only lead to a better life. There is no downside.

A Return to Love

Here is a short introduction to this quote.

Mw_headshot_02

By Marianne Williamson

When we were born, we were programmed perfectly. We had a natural tendency to focus on love. Our imaginations were creative and flourishing, and we knew how to use them. We were connected to a world much richer than the one we connect to now, a world full of enchantment and a sense of the miraculous.

So what happened? Why is it that we reached a certain age, looked around, and the enchantment was gone?

Because we were taught to focus elsewhere. We were taught to think unnaturally. We were taught a very bad
philosophy, a way of looking at the world that contradicts who we are.

We See the World

I like this quote because it mirrors our beliefs about the
importance of vision, attitudes and beliefs. And the Better
Way to Work program provides the structure and format to
make it happen,

We see the world not as it is, but as we are. The
reality you experience is the one you carry with you
in your mind. Therefore, the vision you use is crucial
to your destiny.

All of life is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Your experience
isn't created by outside agents, but by your attitudes
and beliefs. As a co-creator with God, imbued with
free will, you're powerful enough to generate a world
in your mind and then step into it in your experience.

Power vs Force Revisited

Daily_showI found an interesting site by Dr. David Moyle that calibrates popular media using the Power vs Force scale. Remember that anything under 200 is taking energy from the universe and anything over 200 is adding positive energy. Here are his results :

Desperate Housewives  63

NFL football  82

CSI Miami    92

Daily Show   223

  Whale Rider   483

What  The Bleep   817

Again are all of these true, who knows. Does it make sense to me, yea. Do I still like to watch NFL football, sure. The point is only to be aware.

I'll do a post some day on What The Bleep, but if any of this Between Seeing stuff makes sense to you you should rent the DVD.

He also points out, as does Dr. Hawkins, that the consciousness of the world is increasing and this is a good thing.

Check out the site to see some other shows he rated.

Cultural Creatives and the Spiral

My friend Clive pointed out the following correlation between Cultural Creatives and Spiral Dynamics. Obviously this is a generalization but my experience is that it holds pretty much true to form

Traditionalists = Blue
Modernists = Orange
Cultural Creatives = Green

Dr. David Hawkins Power vs. Force

Hawkins_colorDr. Hawkins is one amazing man and he is an enigma. He has authored three fantastic books and developed a scale for measuring consciousness. The books are Power vs Force, The Eye of the Eye and I: Reality and Subjectivity.  A fourth book should be available shortly. His Power vs Force book is now number 187 on the Amazon best seller list. I think this is due to his being profiled in Wayne Dyer's latest book The Power of Intention.

One of the people quoted about the book is Mother Teresa. She says "A beautiful gift of writing. You spread joy, love and compassion through what you write. The fruit of these is peace which you know."

His publishers site on him is here. You can also listen to him in fascinating hour long conversations on a wide range of subjects on this site.

Spiral Dynamics

Spiral_dynamicsWhat is Spiral Dynamics? The best place to start is to look at Clare Graves homepage. The best article on Spiral Dynamics is the interview of Don Beck in What is Enlightenment Magazine. They do a great job of explaining the concept and each of the memes. Ken Wilbur has brought Spiral Dynamics to the mainstream. Here is his explanation of why this matters. A really cool visual presentation of the spiral is here. In a brief search I found some great info on Spiral Dynamics at the blogs coolmel and What's in your mind.

Between Seeing

  • Between Seeing is for all of you that have a sense, a premonition or foresight that there is something more for you in life. You know it is there but in this moment you are "between seeing". Hopefully you'll see that you are not alone and that in love you will find what that is. Enjoy!
