Last week I watched a two hour special on PBS entitled "The New Medicine". It talked about how medicine is becoming more integral involving the mind, body and soul of a person. It's really not new rather it remembers the way medicine used to be practiced. I saw great similarities between what they were saying about "The New Medicine" and "The Better Way To Live and Work" program we do. The purpose of this entry is to share what they are saying and what we do in our work.

Here are some of the things being advocated and practiced in "The New Medicine" that are all part of our program:
- Telling of personal stories
- Identifying and working with people's strengths
- Positive thinking
- Being an advocate
- Giving people hope
- Creating visualizations to remove and reduce fear
- Listening, really listening
- Helping people to be present and not focused on the past or future problems
- Providing people tools - a format and structure to self manage their lives
- Creating a community of like-minded individuals
- Identifying a life purpose and honoring it
- Encouraging questions and time to stay in the question without making rash decisions
- Suggesting several options and not just one course of action
There was a part of me as I was watching this that said, "well it's about time, damn it". And there was another part that said "The times they are a-changin and it is all perfect."
